Examiner: Good morning, could you please introduce yourself?

Candidate: Good morning. My name is Nguyen An, I am from Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. I am a sustainability consultant, working primarily with organizations that wish to implement renewable energy solutions in their infrastructure.

Part 1:

Examiner: Nguyen, I would like to ask you some questions about your city. Firstly, could you tell me about the most interesting part of Ho Chi Minh City?

Candidate: Absolutely. Ho Chi Minh City is renowned for its dynamic blend of tradition and modernity. I believe the most interesting part is District 1, the economic hub. It encapsulates an intriguing mix of architectural styles, from historical French colonial buildings to towering skyscrapers, symbolizing Vietnam’s rapid development.

Examiner: That sounds fascinating. Could you talk about any environmental issues faced by your city?

Candidate: Certainly. Like many urban areas, Ho Chi Minh City faces challenges related to pollution and waste management. The city is grappling with air and water pollution, primarily due to industrial activities and excessive use of motor vehicles. Furthermore, waste management is a pressing issue due to the rapid population growth.

Part 2:

Examiner: Nguyen, now I’d like you to speak for about 2 minutes on a topic. Here is your topic: “Describe an initiative related to energy and resources that was implemented in your city”. You have one minute to think about what you are going to say.

[One minute pause]

Candidate: Ho Chi Minh City has recently launched an initiative that truly exemplifies our commitment to sustainable energy: the Solar Power Project. This project encourages residents and businesses alike to install solar panels on their rooftops, which not only aids in energy conservation but also helps to reduce reliance on non-renewable energy sources.

The local government has offered attractive incentives, including tax breaks and subsidies, to spur participation. Since its inception, thousands of households and companies have jumped on board, resulting in substantial energy savings and a reduction in carbon emissions. This initiative showcases the city’s proactive approach towards achieving its environmental objectives, fostering a culture of responsibility towards energy usage and promoting the importance of renewable resources.

Part 3:

Examiner: That’s very insightful, Nguyen. Let’s explore this further. Why do you think sustainable energy is important for cities like Ho Chi Minh?

Candidate: Well, sustainable energy is essential for multiple reasons. Primarily, it reduces our reliance on fossil fuels, which are finite and contribute to climate change. Additionally, implementing sustainable energy solutions helps improve air quality, thus enhancing citizens’ health. Lastly, it stimulates economic growth by creating jobs in new technology sectors.

Examiner: Excellent. And finally, in your opinion, what other steps should Ho Chi Minh City take to manage its resources more efficiently?

Candidate: Besides investing in renewable energy, I believe the city should focus on strengthening its waste management system. Initiatives to encourage recycling and composting could significantly reduce waste sent to landfills. Additionally, implementing stricter regulations on industrial emissions could further mitigate pollution. Comprehensive public education about resource conservation is also pivotal to ensure long-term success.
