- Arts and crafts: the activity of making beautiful and useful objects: nghệ thuật thủ công
EX: In the village souvenirs, such as wine and arts and crafts, are for sale everywhere.
- Visual arts: creations that we can look at. For instance, painting, sculpture, architecture, film: nghệ thuật thị giác; những tác phẩm nghệ thuật dùng thị giác để cảm nhận
EX: The term ‘musical art’ refers to the integrated nature between music, dance, drama and the visual arts.
- Performing arts: a very wide term meaning anything from cinema, theatre, or any other form of visual art to modern computer presentations. The key characteristic is that it’s performed: a modern dance piece, a concert, a play, an opera, a film, a ballet: loại hình nghệ thuật biểu diễn, ví dụ: một vở kịch, buổi công diễn, buổi nhạc kịch . . .
EX: Season tickets to the theater are a perfect gift for someone who loves the performing arts.
- Abstract art: a genre of art which does NOT depict a person, place, or thing in the natural world. Objects are often simplified or distorted: nghệ thuật trừu tượng
- contemporary art: artworks made after 1970 by still living artists: nghệ thuật đương đại
- A culture vulture: someone who is very interested in art and culture: người yêu thích các loại hình nghệ thuật, văn hóa
EX: If you’re a culture vulture, New York has everything you could want – opera, theatre, museums, and more.
- art gallery: exhibits, place where pieces of art are displayed: phòng tranh trưng bày các tác phẩm nghệ thuật
EX: London is famous for its museums and art galleries.
- watercolour: a pigment used with water to create paintings. Secondly a watercolour is a painting created with watercolours: màu nước; tranh được vẽ từ màu nước
EX: The art gallery is having a show of early 20th-century American watercolors.
- a sketch: a quick informal drawing to capture the essentials of an object: bản phác thảo (vẽ) tranh/thiết kế; một kịch bản ngắn (biễu diễn)
EX: The builder did a rough sketch of how the new stairs would look.
- an artefact: a simple object (such as a tool or weapon) that was made by people in the past: sự tạo tác, tạo vật trong khảo cổ; vật dụng của thời xưa có ý nghĩa lịch sử (ví dụ: các vật dụng thời kỳ đồ đá, vũ khí, . . .)
EX: The museum’s collection includes artefacts dating back to prehistoric times.
- heritage: the traditions, achievements, beliefs, etc., that are part of the history of a group or nation: di sản (văn hóa, thành tựu, tín ngưỡng . . .) thuộc về lịch sử của một đất nước nào đó
EX: These monuments are a vital part of the cultural heritage of South America.
- a masterpiece: a person’s greatest piece of work: kiệt tác của một người
EX: Leonardo’s “Last Supper” is widely regarded as a masterpiece.
- a rave review: an article in a newspaper or magazine that is very enthusiastic about a particular film/movie: sự quan tâm/nhận xét tích cực về một sự kiện/bộ phim nào đó
EX: The show has received rave reviews/notices in all the papers.
